When should I begin chiropractic care for my pet?It is never too soon or too late to incorporate animal chiropractic care into your pet's wellness plan. By doing so, you proactively promote the maintenance of a healthy body and work to prevent the development or progression of chronic conditions and misalignments. Early intervention can be a key factor in ensuring your pet's long-term health, comfort, and vitality. You can start chiropractic care when you notice signs of discomfort, such as difficulty getting up, limping, or behavioral changes. If your pet has recently incurred an injury, this is also a great time to get them checked, as chiropractic care can help with the healing process and get them back on the path to wellness. Whether your pet is young or senior, regular chiropractic care can support their well-being throughout their life.

What types of animals do you see?Any animal is welcome at ProAnimal Chiropractic - horses, dogs, cats, cows, chickens, you name it. As long as it has a spine, it can benefit from chiropractic care!

What is an adjustment? An adjustment is a gentle, safe, and precise technique performed by a certified animal chiropractor to restore proper alignment and motion to the joints. Adjustments can be delivered by hand or with the use of a specialized instrument, depending on your pet’s needs. The goal of an adjustment is to correct subluxations, which occur when there is a lack of motion in a joint, leading to interference in the nervous system. This interference can disrupt the body’s normal function and healing processes. By removing subluxations, and thus interference, chiropractic adjustments help restore optimal nerve function, improving communication between the brain and the body, and promoting overall healing and movement. Subluxations can result from a variety of causes, including physical trauma, emotional stress, or chemical imbalances. If left unaddressed, they can lead to numerous complaints such as pain, decreased mobility, slower healing, digestive issues, sleep disturbances, and changes in behavior. Regular adjustments can help prevent these issues and keep your pet healthy, active, and comfortable.

How long does an adjustment take? For the initial visit, expect 1 hour for large animals and about 30 minutes for small animals. During this initial visit, a thorough history and physical exam will be performed. For follow up adjustments, expect 30-45 minutes for large animals and 15-20 minutes for small animals. Each case may vary slightly, but this is the typical format.

How often does my pet need chiropractic? The frequency of chiropractic care for your pet is personalized based on several key factors, including the nature and severity of the issue, whether it’s a recent or long-standing condition, your pet’s age, and the desired outcomes of treatment. During the initial phase of care, your pet may need more frequent adjustments to address any misalignments or injuries and begin the healing process. Once the initial concerns are addressed, the frequency of adjustments may decrease, transitioning to a maintenance plan to support long-term health and wellness. Your chiropractor will work with you to determine the ideal care plan tailored to your pet's unique needs.
